Deacons at Rose Hill Church
The office of Deacon is a position of service performed within the church and in the community. Deacons are charged with ministries of mercy and help to those in need, especially the sick and those without resources. The office of deacon is based in scripture (Acts 6) when the apostles selected and ordained Stephen and six other men for works of service within the church. Deacons at Rose Hill are church members who are elected and ordained by the congregation.
Perhaps foremost, our Rose Hill deacons have a ministry of prayer. They dedicate half of their monthly meeting time and many individual hours each month to the prayer needs of the congregation, the community, state, nation, and world. Standing on that foundation of prayer, our deacons then act as hands and feet for Jesus in our church and community. Their ministry includes:
Within the church
In the community
At Rose Hill Church we have twelve deacons who serve 3-year terms of office. Rob Mathis, our Minister for Congregational Care, works directly with the deacons on an almost daily basis. The deacons are organized in three groups (classes) with four deacons in each. The classes serve overlapping terms of office. Each year the term of office for one class ends and deacons for a new class are elected to office. Here are the current deacon classes:

Rose Hill Church has a designated Deacons’ Fund that is used to support the ministry of the deacons. The deacons do not receive funding from the church’s general operating funds, so pledges and general offerings are not used by the deacons. Donations to support the work of the Rose Hill deacons must be labeled for the Deacons’ Fund and will be used only for that purpose.
